I am a Ph.D. student in the College of Education at North Carolina State University and the Head of Access Services and Assessment at the UNC Charlotte Atkins Library. I have a wonderful husband, an awesome stepson, an insane hound and one crazy black cat.
My dissertation research focuses on assessment and assessment culture through the lens of Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT). My dissertation explores how part-time faculty perceive and navigate assessment and assessment culture in their institution.
My professional research focuses on the libraries impact on student retention, critical thinking, and student understanding of various literacies (information, media, technology, etc.). I will also begin work with a campus group to explore the non-cognitive factors that impact student retention and persistence. I collaborate with the library anthropologist to assess library space needs as well as create assessment instruments and analyze local/national data to better understand library impact.
